Fuel Saving Tips You Can Use Today

In many areas of the country, fuel prices have reached $4 a gallon and continue to rise. In fact, Thursday marked 23 consecutive days of fuel price increases. In light of these recent events, Auto-Lab would like to provide our customers with some easy fuel saving tips.

1. Check your tire pressure. Under-inflated tires have more rolling resistance which means you will need to burn more gas to keep your vehicle moving.

2. Slow down. As speed increases fuel economy decreases. If you are one that typically drives 10-over on the freeway, try driving the speed limit for a week. You'll notice that you will save a lot of fuel and your drive won't take much longer.

3. Clean out your car. It doesn't take much to accumulate an extra 40-50 lbs. The more junk your vehicle has to lug around the more fuel it will ultimately burn.

4. Roll with the big rigs. Have you ever noticed that in traffic jams, many cars constantly stop and go while trucks roll along at a leisurely pace? That's because saves on fuel economy. It burns more fuel to get a car moving than to keep it in motion.

5. Downsize. If you're shopping for a new vehicle, take into consideration that smaller vehicles generally get better gas mileage.

6. Check your air filter. A dirty air filter restricts air flow to the engine greatly impacting both performance and economy. Air filters are easy to check, simply hold it up to the sun. If you can't see light coming thru, it needs to be changed.
