- Be sure the electrical system is charging at the correct rate; overcharging can damage a battery as quickly as undercharging.
- Although most batteries today are sealed, if you have the type that needs to be topped off, add distilled water when necessary.
- Always replace a battery with one that has a CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) rating at least as high as the one originally specified.
- Keep the top of the battery and battery terminals clean. Dirt and corrosion that can accumulate will inhibit current flow.
- Also check the condition of your vehicle’s belts, and replace any that are worn or cracked.
